After a small blogging hiatus, it seemed time to check up on my sites to see how they were doing.

First question: do they still build?

Turns out the answer was no.

This blog has existed in one form or another since April 2010, when I registered my first blogging domain.

Unfortunately, after multiple domain migrations and several tech stack changes (WordPress → Hugo → Zola), a number of my older posts were lost.

I've been busily working away at adding a few more features to the site since creating my own new theme for it yesterday.

Every now and then I need to expose a service running on a local machine to the internet, usually just temporarily. Rather than opening ports on a router or mucking about with firewall rules, a reverse tunnel does the job nicely.

There are a number of providers offering this kind of reverse tunnel, including:

• Cloudflare Tunnel
• ngrok
• localtunnel
• bore
• Tailscale Funnel

Ever since I rebuilt this site on Zola, one thing has been conspicuously missing: comments.

I've generally been unconcerned with their absence, and - being a static site - wasn't sure if it was practically achievable either.
